Rohit Sharma talks about Test, ODIs after T20I retirement

Srinagar: Team India T20 World Cup winning captain Rohit Sharma has revealed his plans for the ODI’s and Tests after T20I retirement.

Sharma was appointed India’s captain across formats after Virat Kohli stepped down in 2021 and he played ODI World Cup and World Test Championship final in 2023 before finally winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

After India’s triumph in Bridgetown, Sharma confirmed he is calling time on his T20I career but did not say anything about how long he will be in action in the other two formats.

“I just said it, I don’t look that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while,” Rohit said when asked about his plans once he’s done playing cricket during an event in the United States (USA).

The Hitman also talked about the T20 World Cup final against South Africa where the match was almost out of India’s grasp as the Proteas required 30 off 30 following Heinrich Klaasen’s impressive half-century.

“I was completely blank because I don’t think too far ahead. I focus on the situation. It was important for all of us to stay calm and execute our plans. So when they needed 30 off 30, the pressure was on us and the five overs that we bowled then, it showed we did our job calmly, didn’t panic which was very good from our side,” Rohit said.

Rohit departed from the format as its highest scorer — 4,231 runs in 159 matches — and also holds the record for the most centuries (five) in T20 internationals. He has won two T20 World Cup titles: the inaugural one as a player in 2007 and now as captain in 2024.
