Rockstar Games Delays GTA 6 Release to November 2026, Cites Need for “More Polish”

November 7, 2025 — Los Angeles:Rockstar Games has officially announced yet another delay for its much-anticipated title, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), pushing its global release date to November 19, 2026.

Originally scheduled for autumn 2025, the blockbuster sequel was first postponed to May 2026. The latest update marks the game’s second major delay, extending fans’ decade-long wait for the next installment in the iconic open-world franchise.

In a statement shared on Thursday, November 6, Rockstar explained that the additional delay was necessary to ensure the game meets the studio’s high standards for quality and polish.

“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait,” Rockstar said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“But these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the quality and attention to detail you deserve.”

The developer also expressed gratitude toward fans for their patience and reaffirmed its excitement for what’s to come.

“While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City,” the studio added.

GTA 6 will reportedly take place in Leonida, a fictional U.S. state inspired by Florida, featuring a reimagined Vice City alongside new rural and suburban environments.

The delay comes amid recent turmoil within Rockstar’s UK studios, where over 30 employees were laid off on October 30. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) accused the company of retaliating against unionization efforts — a claim that has drawn protests outside Rockstar’s offices in Edinburgh and London.

The company has released two official trailers so far, the latest debuting in May 2025, offering glimpses of enhanced visuals, expansive open-world design, and two central protagonists.

Industry experts say the delay reflects broader trends in modern game development, where increasing complexity and high consumer expectations often push studios to take more time before launch.

Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, remains one of the most successful entertainment products in history, selling over 190 million copies worldwide and ranking as the second best-selling video game of all time.

With expectations sky-high, Rockstar’s latest delay underscores its commitment to delivering what could be the most ambitious open-world experience yet.
