Srinagar, Apr 12: In a stunning turnaround, Real Kashmir FC produced a commanding performance to defeat Gokulam Kerala FC 6–2 in their Indian Football League (IFL) clash at TRC Turf Stadium, Srinagar, on Sunday. The emphatic victory marks RKFC’s first win of the season, keeping their survival hopes alive in the relegation battle.
After enduring a difficult run of form, the home side entered the match under pressure, having failed to secure a win in their previous fixtures. With this result, Real Kashmir now have five points from eight matches, including one win, two draws, and five defeats, though they remain at the bottom of the points table.
The match began in an electrifying atmosphere with strong home support in Srinagar. Despite the crowd backing, Gokulam Kerala FC struck first, taking an early lead and putting RKFC on the back foot.
However, Real Kashmir responded swiftly, finding the equaliser before halftime to make it 1–1, setting up an intense second half.
The hosts came out with renewed intent after the break and quickly took control of the game. Two rapid goals saw RKFC surge to a 3–1 lead, showcasing improved attacking coordination and urgency.
Gokulam Kerala briefly threatened a comeback by reducing the deficit to 3–2 around the 80th minute, but RKFC maintained composure and regained control in the closing stages.
Real Kashmir extended their lead with another goal before being reduced to 10 men after Hyder was shown a red card. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the home side continued to dominate proceedings.
Head coach Ishfaq Ahmad’s tactical substitutions proved decisive, as RKFC capitalised in stoppage time, netting two more goals to complete a comprehensive 6–2 victory.
With momentum finally on their side, Real Kashmir FC will look to build on this performance when they face Sreenidi Deccan FC on April 19. The upcoming fixtures will be crucial as the team continues its fight to avoid relegation.
