Srinagar, April 26: Indian cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Monday decided to ‘take a break’ from the ongoing IPL 2021 to join his Covid-19-hit family.
The Delhi Capitals’ spinner took to Twitter to announce his exit, saying his family and extended family are suffering from Covid-19.
“I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals 🙏🙏,” He wrote on Twitter.
The second wave of Coronavirus has hit India badly, impacting almost 3 lakh lives daily. Several overseas cricketers have also opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
Ashwin though was the first Indian cricketer to withdraw from the tournament. He last appeared for Delhi Capitals on Sunday in a thriller against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
