Srinagar, February 27: Jammu and Kashmir skipper Ian Dev Singh Chauhan displayed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up a remarkable ton, however his century coupled with magnificent batting displays by Abdul Samad and few other batters failed to save J&K from 117-run defeat against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at IIT Chemplast, Chennai.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 189/4, skipper Ian Chauhan and talented Abdul Samad who were unbeaten on 65 and 21 runs respectively, played aggressively and did all the hard work and were going great guns to make a big partnership of 143 runs while chasing a huge total, before both fell in quick succession.
Samad was the first man to be dismissed at his individual score of 70 runs off 78 balls, studded with 6 fours and 5 massive sixes, while Ian scored a fabulous century, before being dismissed for 110 runs off 188 balls, studded with 15 delectable boundaries and 2 sixes.
After their departure, Parvez Rasool (46) and Abid Mushtaq (43) tried their best but that was not enough to script victory. Rasool scored 46 off 63 balls with 6 boundaries, while Abid contributed 43 off 35 balls, studded with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Earlier, Fazil Rashid had scored 65 off 140 deliveries. The whole team managed to score 390 runs in 98.5 overs, thus lost the match by 117 runs.
For Karnataka, medium pacer, Prasidh Krishna and spinner Shreyas Gopal bagged 4 wickets each, Krishnappa Gowtham claimed 2 wickets.
With this win, Karnataka earned 6 points to top the table.
