Seattle: Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has issued a public apology after performing a gesture during an online livestream that was later identified as antisemitic and offensive, saying he was unaware of its meaning at the time.
In a statement released Thursday, Nacua said he had “no idea” the gesture carried antisemitic connotations and expressed regret for his actions.
“I deeply apologize to anyone who was offended,” Nacua said. “I do not support or stand for any form of racism, bigotry, or hatred toward any group of people.”
Gesture Occurred During Online Stream
The incident took place Tuesday during a livestream featuring internet personalities Adin Ross and N3on, who encouraged Nacua to perform the gesture and suggested he use it as a touchdown celebration in a future game.
Following the backlash, the NFL released a statement condemning discrimination of any kind and reaffirming its stance against antisemitism.
“The NFL strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and derogatory behavior,” the league said. “The rise in antisemitism must be addressed, and hatred has no place in our sport or society.”
Rams Respond, Streamers Denied Facility Access
The Los Angeles Rams also responded, emphasizing that prejudice and hostility toward any religious, ethnic, or racial group are unacceptable. The organization confirmed that the streamers involved in the incident attempted to access the team’s practice facility but were denied entry.
In the same livestream, Nacua also criticized NFL officiating, calling referees “the worst” and suggesting some make calls for attention during games.
Focus Shifts Back to the Field
Despite the controversy, Nacua is expected to be available as the Rams prepare to face the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 16 Thursday Night Football matchup.
The situation has drawn widespread attention across the league, underscoring the NFL’s continued efforts to address discriminatory behavior and promote inclusivity.
