NFL Suspends Texans Minority Owner Javier Loya Indefinitely After Conduct Investigation

The National Football League (NFL) has suspended Houston Texans minority owner Javier Loya indefinitely and fined him $500,000 after determining he violated the league’s personal conduct policy. The ruling comes after a league investigation into allegations originally brought against Loya in 2023.

The suspension follows the dismissal of most criminal charges in the case. Loya was initially charged in May 2023 with several offences related to alleged incidents at gatherings held at his Louisville residence in 2022. In 2024, he entered an Alford plea to a misdemeanor count of harassment with intent to annoy, while seven more serious charges were dismissed.

In a statement, the NFL said:
“In March 2024, Texans minority owner Javier Loya entered an Alford plea in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. With the full support and cooperation of the Texans, the league conducted an investigation, following which the Commissioner determined Mr. Loya’s actions violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy.”

Under the ruling, Loya is eligible to apply for reinstatement no earlier than June 2026.

Loya Responds to Suspension

Loya expressed disagreement with the NFL’s decision, stating that he had already stepped away from all team and league activities for more than two years.
“I respectfully disagree with the NFL’s decision… and I look forward to seeking reinstatement,” he said.

Texans Support NFL’s Decision

The Houston Texans confirmed that Loya has been barred from participating in any club or league activities since the initial charges were filed.
“This behaviour has no place in our organisation or our community,” the team noted, emphasising full support for the league’s ruling.
