London: Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has voiced strong criticism over his recent treatment at Anfield, admitting that he feels “thrown under the bus” and that his relationship with manager Arne Slot has deteriorated significantly.
Salah was left on the bench for the third straight match during Liverpool’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday, deepening questions about his place in Slot’s plans.
Salah: “Someone Doesn’t Want Me at the Club”
Speaking after the match, an emotional Salah said he feels unfairly targeted:
“I don’t know why, but it seems to me that someone doesn’t want me in the club.
It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus. I think it’s very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.”
Despite expressing deep affection for Liverpool, Salah insisted the situation has become “unacceptable” and made it clear he does not believe he is the issue.
A Difficult Season for Salah
The 33-year-old Egyptian has experienced a sharp dip in form this season, scoring just four goals in 13 Premier League appearances, compared to his 29-goal performance last campaign when Liverpool lifted the title.
Although Salah signed a two-year contract extension in April, he admitted he is now unsure about his long-term future at Anfield.
Saudi Pro League Interest Grows
Clubs from the Saudi Pro League, including Al-Hilal coached by Simone Inzaghi, remain keen on signing Salah. Reports suggest Liverpool’s hierarchy is open-minded about a potential transfer if the right offer arrives.
Slot Defends His Decisions
Liverpool boss Arne Slot defended benching Salah, claiming the decision was tactical:
“It was more about controlling the game. I bring Mo on when we need a goal.”
Salah’s last start came in Liverpool’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven on 26 November.
AFCON Preparations Take Priority
With the Africa Cup of Nations starting on 15 December, Salah’s immediate focus shifts toward leading Egypt, but the uncertainty over his Liverpool future is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
