London: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah arrived for training on Tuesday despite escalating speculation surrounding his future at Anfield. The forward’s relationship with manager Arne Slot appears strained after a series of controversial comments and recent omissions from the squad.
Salah was excluded from Liverpool’s travelling squad for their Champions League clash against Inter Milan, coming just days after he publicly criticised Slot for benching him for a third consecutive match. The Egyptian forward was spotted driving himself to the club’s Kirkby training centre, later sharing a photo from the gym on Instagram to signal his presence.
The 33-year-old ignited headlines following Liverpool’s dramatic 3–3 draw with Leeds, saying he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” and no longer had a relationship with Slot. Salah, who signed a new deal in April, hinted that broken promises were behind his frustrations and suggested he no longer felt wanted by the club.
With Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly preparing January bids, doubts continue to mount over whether Salah will remain a Liverpool player beyond the winter transfer window.
Slot Responds to Salah’s Comments
Speaking at a press conference in Milan, Slot said he could not guarantee Salah’s future:
“I have no clue. I cannot answer that question at this point in time.”
Slot added that while Salah is entitled to his feelings, sharing them publicly was unacceptable:
“He has every right to feel what he feels, but he doesn’t have the right to share it with the media.”
Salah, who was not used even as a substitute at Elland Road, is set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League home fixture against Brighton.
Liverpool Struggling Through a Difficult Season
This turbulent episode comes during a dismal campaign for both Salah and Liverpool. The reigning Premier League champions have managed just four wins in 15 games across all competitions. They sit 10th in the league table and 13th in the Champions League group standings after a heavy 4–1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Salah—one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, with 250 goals since joining from Roma in 2017—has recorded just four goals in 13 league matches this season, a stark contrast to his previous levels.
Despite playing a central role in Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League triumphs, his future at the club now appears more uncertain than ever.
