New York: Logan Paul has described his brother Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua as nothing short of “insane,” summing up the shocking matchup in a single word.
Jake Paul is scheduled to face Joshua on December 19 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, in what has become one of the most controversial boxing events of the year. The announcement immediately drew widespread criticism, largely due to the massive size and experience gap between the two fighters.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, is significantly taller, much heavier, and vastly more experienced than Paul, who has built his boxing résumé fighting former MMA fighters and aging opponents such as 60-year-old Mike Tyson. Paul has mostly competed at cruiserweight throughout his career.
Meanwhile, Joshua will be stepping back into the ring for the first time since his defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024—a bout in which he also suffered injuries. Despite his long layoff, oddsmakers heavily favour Joshua to win, many predicting a finish within the first two rounds.
Jake Paul, however, remains confident in his chances. Speaking to streamer Adin Ross, he said he sees opportunities to land meaningful shots.
“Yeah, 100 per cent,” Paul said when asked if he could find openings. “I see holes in his game where I can land a big shot. It’s going to be a very, very, very, very, very tough fight. He’s by far my toughest opponent. I’m outgunned in every category.”
Logan Paul echoed the mixed sentiment of admiration and disbelief, saying:
“I think it’s insane, but there’s a reason why he’s Jake Paul and this is what he does.”
The blockbuster bout has been sanctioned as an eight-round fight, to be contested with 10 oz gloves. Reports also suggest a staggering total purse of £140 million, split evenly—meaning both Paul and Joshua are expected to earn approximately £70 million each.
