Lodha committee: SGM adjourned, September 30 deadline missed

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) adjourned its special general body meeting on Friday after it was discovered that some of the authority letters from different associations representing their respective states were defective. The BCCIwill now meet on Saturday to possibly vote on a decision regarding the Lodha committee‘s reforms, which in theory means that the September 30 deadline for the first round of Supreme Court implementations has been missed.

Sources said that the BCCI will write a letter to all its state units asking them to issue a proper letter of authorization for representation at the SGM. “The strategy of the BCCI is still not clear. But the board is not happy adopting the cooling off period of three years. The top officials are still contesting that to continue with their posts,” a working committee member said.

As earlier reported in media, the BCCI has principally agreed to adopt all the Lodha committee’s reforms except the ‘cooling off period’ clause. According to sources, the working committee members were told that the Lodha committee is to be kept in the loop about the BCCI’s decision to not adopt the cooling off period. The members were also given assurance by the board that the Lodha committee would not make an issue out of it.

Some members were surprised when the BCCI took the decision to confiscate their cell phones before the meeting started. “It was completely shocking because none of the members had to go through this kind of stuff before,” another working member said.
