Keeping eye on impressive Shaan Masood, says Babar Azam

Srinagar, June 1: Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has said that he and team management is keeping eye on inform Shaan Masood who is having brilliant time in County Cricket.

Masood, who is currently leading Derbyshire CCC in the T20 Blast under his former Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur, has been in brilliant form with the bat so far in both formats.

“We have watched Masood’s current performance and we have an eye on him,” Babar was quoted as saying by Geo.

“He is a top-order batter, utillizing him in lower order will be injustice to him,” the Pakistan captain further added.

Babar also mentioned that Pakistan will keep in mind the next year’s World Cup while playing the 50-over format.

“Being a team, our focus is on the series. Our preparations are underway and we will continue playing modern day cricket,” he said.

“We have next year’s World Cup in our mind while playing ODIs. We also played our series against Australia with this planning,” he added.

Masood was the second-highest run-getter in the County Championship (red ball) and became the first-ever Pakistani to score two back-to-back double hundreds.

He was recalled to the Test squad for the Australia series after being dropped following the New Zealand tour in early 2021.

Last week, Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim had told Cricket Pakistan that Shan Masood was close to getting selected for the white-ball squads in the future.

Masood was integral part of the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League, where he has scored runs at the top while opening the batting alongside Mohammad Rizwan.
