Abid Nabi who was once considered as one of the fastest bowlers in India has again been neglected by scandal plagued J&K Cricket Association (JKCA).
A 31-year old, 6 feet 2 inch tall fast bowler Abid Nabi who hails from Sonwar Srinagar has played for India-A and was also part of Delhi Giants team in the now-defunct Indian Cricket League.
Abid made his first class debut in 2004 and made an impressive impact with his powerful pace bowling and handy part time batting. He came in limelight when former team India coach Greg Chapell called him to bowl at Indian team in nets at Mohali in 2005. After that he was included in India A side and was on verge of making it to highest level.
But soon after Bishen Singh Bedi took over as coach of J&K Ranji Team, Abid’s career faced started a downfall. As former legend accused bowler for lack of fitness and work ethics. Soon in 2012 Abid Nabi was dropped from the team and since then he is struggling to find a place in team. Recently he was included in J&K T20 squad but was given only a single match in the tournament.
Abid blames JKCA for spoiling his career, he said in a statement, “I was included in T20 side for just show off, despite picking two wickets in the only game I played, I was again dropped”.
Now Abid has been again dropped from J&K One Day side which was announced today. “I am again dropped from team without any reason.’ said angry Abid. Also on calling Gen Secretary JKCA for his dropping him, Abid heard a shocking reply.
“When I called Gen Secretary and asked him why am I dropped from team, he replied ‘go and ask Ahsan Mirza, Saleem Khan and Idress Gundroo (members of previous faction).
Abid also said that, “He has been again and again ignored despite performing well.”
JKCA is famous for sinking player’s careers and Abid Nabi is the latest victim of that. Abid Nabi want justice to be done with him and other deserving players who faced same negligence from JKCA. He said, “I want to address BCCI and want them to look into this matter and inspect the associate members.” He also said, “J&K cricket can never improve until right people will take charge.”
This really is very unfortunate that players like Abid Nabi are treated like this. BCCI should look into this matter and give justice to Abid and other players.
