JKFA writes to Home Minister, LG J&K to save GDC Baramulla playing ground

Srinagar: J&K Football Association has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and LG J&K Manoj Sinha for intervention in saving Government Degree College Ground Baramulla.
There are reports that GDC Baramulla Ground is under plan to used for Railway Track.

“I hope this letter finds you both in good health and high spirits. We are writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue that concerns the future of sports in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir,” letter reads

“It has recently come to our attention that the playing ground of Degree College Baramulla is under threat of being used as a track for a railway line by the Indian Railways. This ground has been a vital sporting hub for the local community, providing a space for various sports activities, including football, cricket, and athletics. It has played a significant role in nurturing young talents and fostering a healthy sporting culture in the region,” it said.

“The potential conversion of this playing ground into a railway track would not only deprive the local youth of a space for recreational and sporting activities but also have a detrimental impact on the development of sports in the area. With limited sporting infrastructure already available, losing such a valuable resource would be a severe setback for the aspiring athletes of Baramulla”.

“Therefore, we earnestly request your intervention in this matter to explore alternative solutions that would allow the playing ground to be preserved for sports activities. We believe that with your esteemed guidance and support, a mutually beneficial resolution can be reached that addresses the concerns of both the Indian Railways and the local sports community”.

We trust in your commitment to promoting sports and youth development in Jammu and Kashmir and are hopeful that you will take swift action to safeguard the playing ground of Degree College Baramulla, it added.
