ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour Launched Across Asia

New Delhi, December 16: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday officially launched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour, marking the start of a global build-up to the marquee tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The tour was inaugurated in spectacular fashion above Adam’s Bridge, a historic chain of shoals linking the two host nations. The trophy was unveiled mid-air, carried by a two-seater paramotor against the striking backdrop of India’s southern coastline.

In an official statement, the ICC highlighted the significance of the location, noting that Adam’s Bridge — known as Ram Setu in India — represents a symbolic and cultural link between the two co-hosts.

Trophy to Travel Across Asia

As part of the extensive outreach programme, the T20 World Cup trophy will tour multiple countries across Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Oman, Nepal, Bahrain and Mongolia.

Fans across the region will have opportunities to see the trophy up close through campus visits, fan engagement events, public activations and cricket carnivals, aimed at boosting excitement ahead of the global tournament.

Schools and Colleges to Get Special Access

In a unique initiative, the ICC confirmed that the trophy will also be showcased at schools and colleges connected to players expected to feature in the 2026 World Cup. The move is designed to inspire young fans and offer them a rare connection to international cricket.

Additionally, the trophy will make appearances at major T20 leagues and select bilateral series, extending its reach beyond international tournaments and strengthening fan engagement across different formats of the game.

Jay Shah on the Symbolism of the Launch

ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the launch as a meaningful beginning to the tournament countdown.

“Launching the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour above the Ram Setu, a site steeped in history, symbolism and shared cultural identity, sets an inspiring tone as we build towards this landmark event,” Shah said.

He added that the tour represents more than just showcasing the trophy.

“It is a unifying journey that brings continents, cultures and cricketing communities together, igniting passion among fans worldwide and strengthening the shared spirit that defines our game,” he added.

Tournament Details

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be the 10th edition of the tournament and will run from February 7 to March 8, 2026. A total of 20 teams will compete, divided into four groups of five.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Eight stage, followed by the knockout rounds.

The tournament opener will see Pakistan face the Netherlands, while hosts and defending champions India will take on the USA later on the opening day in Mumbai.

With the trophy tour now underway, the ICC aims to build anticipation and connect fans across regions as the countdown to the world’s premier T20 event begins.
