“He should play”: Sunil Gavaskar says India should hand Umran Malik debut in 3rd T20I against South Africa

Former veteran Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on Sunday said it was high time for Team India to hand Umran Malik his debut after they lost their second T20I against South Africa.

Gavaskar has always praised the Jammu and Kashmir youngster for his pace and aggression with the ball. He said that after Sachin Tendulkar, Umran was the only cricketer he gets excited to watch.

“The first player I got excited to see was Sachin Tendulkar. The second player is Umran Malik.“ Gavaskar said.

Umran put the IPL 2022 on fire with his raw pace. He scalped as many as 22 wickets in the tournament to win emerging player award. On this performance, the 22-year-old was handed the maiden India call-up.

Now since India lost the first two T20Is against South Africa, Gavaskar said India should try the youngster in the upcoming game.

“He should play,” Gavaskar remarked.

India on Sunday faced 4-wicket defeat after going down in the first match too. The series  will be on the line in the next game on Tuesday.
