New York: Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was detained by police just hours after he was dismissed from his position, authorities confirmed. The university announced his termination on Wednesday, citing “cause,” after determining Moore had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
According to an ESPN report, Moore is also a suspect in an alleged assault, although law enforcement has not filed any charges at this time.
Following his dismissal, Moore was taken into custody in Saline, Michigan, before being transferred to authorities in Pittsfield Township for further inquiry. He was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail, but investigators have not released details regarding the internal policy violation or the nature of the allegation.
Contract and Financial Details Under Scrutiny
Moore’s rapid rise in the college football world had placed him in a high-profile position at Michigan, and his compensation has since drawn attention.
As reported by EssentiallySports, Moore’s estimated net worth is $28.6 million, supported largely by his five-year coaching contract, which included a $500,000 annual retention bonus. His salary, however, was significantly lower than that of his predecessor Jim Harbaugh, who earned $11.5 million per year.
Focus Shifts to His Family Amid Investigation
While Moore remains detained, public attention has also turned toward his wife, Kelli Moore, who has kept a low profile throughout his coaching career.
The couple, married since 2015, share three daughters, according to MARCA. Kelli is known to be a supportive presence at Michigan games but otherwise stays out of the spotlight.
Her X (formerly Twitter) bio describes her as a “Jesus follower, Coach Moore’s wife, mom, and LGBT ally.” Both she and Sherrone have set their social media accounts to private, limiting public information about their personal lives.
As the investigation continues, authorities have emphasized that no charges have been filed, and further updates will depend on the ongoing inquiry in Pittsfield Township.
