End of an Era: Parvez Rasool to Play in IHPL, Bids Farewell to J&K Cricket

Srinagar: In a major development from the J&K cricketing circuit, the region’s biggest cricket icon Parvez Rasool is all set to play in the newly launched Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), beginning October 25 at the Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.

Parvez, the first-ever cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir to represent Team India, has been away from the J&K Ranji Trophy setup for the past few seasons following differences with the current J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) management. His inclusion in the IHPL marks a new chapter in his cricketing journey—and also an official end to his domestic career under BCCI, effectively signaling his retirement from first-class cricket.

Over the years, Parvez Rasool has carved a remarkable legacy, leading J&K cricket through its golden phase. He remains the most successful captain in the state’s history and one of the finest all-rounders in Indian domestic cricket. His stellar record includes 330 matches across formats, in which he has taken 633 wickets, including 26 five-wicket hauls and five ten-wicket match hauls, and scored 10,470 runs, with 17 centuries and 56 fifties to his name.

Rasool has represented India, played in the IPL, and also showcased his skills in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh domestic circuits, earning recognition as the Best All-Rounder in Ranji Trophy for two consecutive seasons — an honor presented by the BCCI at the Naman Awards.

While his move to IHPL is exciting for fans, it comes with mixed emotions — many believe a player of Parvez’s stature deserved a farewell match under JKCA colors, acknowledging his immense contribution to J&K cricket.

The Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), meanwhile, represents a fresh chapter in Indian cricket — a blend of sport, culture, and tourism rooted in the “Valley of Cricket, Spirit of India” vision. Featuring world-class players, celebrity mentors, and local talent, the IHPL aims to offer Kashmiri youth the platform to train under ex-IPL stars and first-class veterans, transforming potential into excellence.

Beyond cricket, the IHPL seeks to showcase the beauty and vibrancy of Kashmir, turning every match into a celebration of both sport and the spirit of the Valley.

As Parvez Rasool steps into this new journey, his legacy as the torchbearer of J&K cricket remains unmatched — inspiring generations who dared to dream beyond boundaries.
