New York: In the world of athletics, Kenyan icon Eliud Kipchoge has announced a historic project — the “Eliud Kipchoge World Tour” — where he plans to run seven marathons on seven continents over the next two years.
The announcement came after Kipchoge completed the New York City Marathon, finishing 17th in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 36 seconds. Despite the modest finish, the crowd at Central Park gave the double Olympic champion a hero’s reception.
According to his management team, the world tour will combine elite-level competition with a global awareness and charity mission.
“This unprecedented journey will take Kipchoge across the world to compete in marathons on all seven continents,” the statement said.
“The goal is to inspire a running world while raising funds for the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, supporting education and environmental causes.”
Kipchoge, who turns 41 this week, told Olympics.com that the project gives him the opportunity to push beyond limits.
“I want to do that extreme thing that makes someone work hard. I want to inspire, give back, and remind everyone that no human is limited,” Kipchoge said.
The world record-breaking athlete also hinted at fulfilling his dream of running in Antarctica, calling it one of the most challenging environments on Earth.
