Director Tourism, Kashmir Unveils Championship Souvenirs for 10th National Snow Shoe Championships

Srinagar, February 10: In a significant step towards the successful conduct of the 10th National Snow Shoe Championships–2026, the Director Tourism, Kashmir, today unveiled the official championship souvenirs, including T-shirts and medals, at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), Srinagar.

The national-level championship is being organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, and will be held at the renowned winter destination of Sonamarg from February 13 to February 16, 2026.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director Tourism highlighted the importance of promoting winter sports in Jammu & Kashmir and reiterated the department’s commitment to developing Sonamarg as a premier hub for adventure tourism and snow-based sporting activities. He emphasized that such events not only foster sporting excellence but also significantly contribute to boosting winter tourism and enhancing local livelihoods.

The unveiling ceremony marked an important milestone in the championship preparations, which are in their final stages. The event is expected to witness participation from athletes and teams representing 13 states across the country, along with contingents from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

The ceremony was attended by Waseem Raja, Joint Director Tourism, Kashmir; Sheikh Enayat, Deputy Director Tourism (Recreation); Tariq Ahmad Ghani, President, J&K Snow Shoe Association; Arif Laigaroo, Vice President, J&K Snow Shoe Association; and Dr Altaf ur Rehman, General Secretary, J&K Snow Shoe Association, besides officers from the Tourism Department and other key stakeholders associated with the organisation of the championship.

The Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir is working in close coordination with event organisers and local stakeholders to ensure comprehensive arrangements, including infrastructure development, logistics, safety measures, and hospitality services, to provide a seamless experience for athletes and visitors.

The 10th National Snow Shoe Championships–2026 is poised to be one of the major winter sporting highlights of the season, further reinforcing Kashmir’s standing as a premier destination for winter sports tourism in India.
