Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of sports in promoting unity, friendship, and mutual understanding among the youth of different regions.
“Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. I am delighted to be here with you at the inauguration of the 69th National School Games. Unfortunately, the weather does not permit a long speech, but it gives me great pleasure—on behalf of myself, my colleagues, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir—to warmly welcome you all to this prestigious tournament,” Omar Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister assured full support from the government and organisers, promising every possible measure for the comfort and safety of participants.
“If any of you face inconvenience—be it shortage of warm clothing or any other need—please do not hesitate to approach us. We will do everything possible to make your stay comfortable,” he said.
Expressing optimism about better weather ahead, Abdullah urged the young athletes to enjoy the spirit of competition and camaraderie, reminding them that participation was more important than victory.

“Winning is not as important as taking part. I sincerely appreciate your spirit and enthusiasm in coming here to participate,” he added, extending best wishes to all teams.
A colourful march past by the 30 participating contingents drew applause from the Chief Minister and the crowd, followed by the sportsmanship oath taken by players, coaches, and team officials—pledging to uphold the values of fair play, discipline, and teamwork.
