Babar Azam unlikely to open batting in T20 for Pakistan

Srinagar: The media reports in Pakistan have claimed that former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been asked to bat at No.3 in the T20 format.

Pakistan is set to take hosts New Zealand in T20 series from Janaury 12 in Auckland under new skipper Shaheen Afridi.

The reports claimed that for the T20 format, team managment under Mohammad Hafeez has devised new strategy which means splitting opening pair of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

“The strategy was conceived during the Test tour of Australia. Initially planning to enlist Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman as the opening duo, the management revised their strategy, opting for vice-captain Rizwan alongside Saim at the top of the order,” reports said.

Babar Azam is slated to bat at number three, with Fakhar Zaman earmarked for the number four spot.

Reports said that Babar Azam has not lodged any protest or voiced disagreement over this change.

Meanwhile on Tuesday Pakistan squad trained for the first time in New Zealand.
