AJKMF team scales Mount Tatakooti 

Srinagar: In a major achievement, the team of  All Jammu Kashmir Mountaineering Foundation (AJKMF) recently made sucessfull summit of one of the most technical peaks of Kashmir, the Mount Tatakooti with the altitude of 15583 feet.

As per AJKMF statement, the Team left for the expedition From Srinagar on 25-AUG-2023 and pitched tents at Tatakooti base camp Dumail.

“Next day on 26-AUG-2023 team buckled up and started to climb the mountain at 6:00AM in the morning team climbed 70° steep section of the mountain which is full of loose rocks and rock falls,10:30AM team reached the shoulder of the mountain which is at the elevation of 14501 feet,” statement said.

“At 11:55Am all members successfully scaled the Giant peak. Team was lead by the most experienced mountaineer  of valley Yaseen Lone who has done his mountaineering courses back in 90’s and Climbed major peaks of Kashmir including highest peak of Kashmir back in 2005 Other members was Rouf Rather and Muzakir,” statement said.

“Same day at 12:15Am it started snowing heavily on the summit  and at 12:30Pm team started to descend down tied our ropes rapeling down throw the narrow patches of the mountain facing many challenges but thanks to almighty made it safe and sound at base camp.Club is so proud of their Big Achievement,” statement added.

Mount Tatakooti Peak is a mountain with a peak elevation of 4,760 metres (15,620 ft), on the border of Budgam and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The most conspicuous and imposing peak of Pir Panjal range is undoubtedly Tatakooti. The other higher peak of this range is Sunset Peak at 4,750 m (15,580 feet). Tatakooti, along with Sunset Peak, lies south west of the Kashmir valley. It is located 40 km west of Shopian town and 105 km southwest of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the highest peak of the Pir Panjal bounding Kashmir from SW.
