Srinagar: Mohammad Adil Teli and Moonis emerged winner in senior and junior categories respectively in the Kashmir Cycling Championship that was conducted by Amblin Services from Duck Park foreshore road to Zaberwan park boulevard here on Wednesday.
The run was flagged of by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Secretary and a sports promoter Arif Laigaroo. In the event around 30 professional riders of Kashmir participated in senior and junior categories.
As all the participating riders are professional cyclists who train daily for the races, the competition turned out to be neck to neck. In the end, Mohammad Adil Teli who plays for Arco Cements finished ahead of International cyclist of State, Mohammad Akber Khan who plays for Noora Hospital. Adil Teli finished third. In junior category, Moonis finished first while as Mashooq finished second and Sheikh Saqib third.
Later prize distribution ceremony was held at Zaberwan Park in which Arif Laigaroo was chief guest while as Director Amblin Hinan Manzoor and former national level athlete Gulzar Khan were guest of honor.
On the occasion Laigaroo said that there is lot of potential among Kashmiri youth to excel at higher levels in sports.
“Cyclists like Akber Khan and Adil Teli are role models for u. While Akber Khan is household name, Adil Teli too has brought laurels for State on multiple occasions at national level,” said Laigaroo.
“I assure cycling sports all my support and will try to help in conducting more such events in future,” he said.
Hinan Manzoor said that Amblin has conducting number of events in past and it was first time that it organized cycling for the professional cyclists of the State.
“We will keep organizing events in multiple sports disciplines and will keep promoting talent,” he said.
