Srinagar: Additional Director General of Police, Armed, J&K, SJM Gillani today felicitated Basketball team of J&K Police for lifting the title trophy in the Invitational Basketball Tournament which was organised by Basketball Association of Himachal Pradesh.
While congratulating the winning team, the ADGP appreciated the hard work of coaches and the guidance of skipper in honing the team which lead to such a feat.
The event held at Sanghol District Kangra (HP) involving 21 teams of North Indian states including those professional clubs. In the title clash, JKP defeated Punjab Sixers 81-79 in a high scoring game. Shubam Sharma and Sumit Kumar were adjudged as the best scorer of the tournament whereas Iqbal Singh was adjudged as the player.
The Team: Sumit Kumar (captain), Sunit Kumar, Vishal Sharma, Vishal Choudhary, Rajat Singh, Avinash Dingra, Sachin Dogra, Rishab Singh, Rahul Manhas and Shubam Bhardwaj. Coaches: Amit Bharti and Iqbal Singh (assistant coch).
Earlier, J&K Police qualified the group wining the three games. Later, in the knockout stages of quarterfinals, JKP defeated VIII Dogra 80-53. In the semifinals, JKP trounced 21 Punjab making it 102-79 thus qualified for final.
