J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC) has failed to complete the work on the multi-purpose indoor sports hall at Polo Ground, Srinagar on which work had started in 2013.
Set to be completed within six months after laying its foundation stone as claimed by the then Government, the multi-purpose hall still awaits completion. The project has already missed many deadlines.
The work on the multi-purpose indoor hall at Polo ground was started on November 27-2013 after its foundation stone was laid by then Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din.
At that time it was announced that multi-purpose facility would be built at a cost of Rs 1.82 crore and it will have facilities for playing games like basketball, judo, martial arts, table tennis etc. It was also announced that work on the facility would be completed within a period of six months.
Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, Nusrat Ara accepted that there has been delay in completing the project.
Sources in JKSSC said that the current regime has not paying due attention to the project because the project was conceived and started during NC rule.
The former Sports Council member and known sports administrator Bashir Ahmad Malik said, “This is why we call Sports Council a totally useless body where no one does any work. They only make tall claims about development while as ground reality is something different,” Malik said.
He said that the ongoing work has impacted the conditions of whole Polo Ground as the building material other things lay all over the place.
Despite repeated attempts Secretary Sports Council Waheed ur Rehman Parra was not available for comments. (Source Greater Kashmir)
