Srinagar: In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir cricket, veteran sports journalist, coach, and cricket administrator Rajesh Dhar has been appointed manager of the Indian men’s cricket team for the upcoming home Test and ODI series against Afghanistan.
The assignment marks another significant milestone in Dhar’s long association with cricket and sports administration. The India-Afghanistan series will begin with a one-off Test match at Maharaja Yadavindra International Cricket Stadium from June 6 to 10, 2026, followed by three One-Day Internationals in Dharamshala (June 13), Lucknow (June 17), and Chennai (June 20).
A physical educationist and BCCI Level-I certified coach, Dhar brings extensive experience in team management and player development. Over the years, he has served the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in multiple capacities, including Ranji Trophy team manager, senior women’s team manager, U-23 men’s team manager, U-19 coach, and assistant coach of the JKCA Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy side.
Apart from his contributions to cricket administration, Dhar is also a physical education lecturer and serves as a cricket selector with the Department of Youth Services and Sports. His appointment is expected to strengthen India’s off-field operations, logistics, and team coordination during the Afghanistan series.
Widely respected in cricketing circles, Dhar has worn many hats throughout his career—as a player, coach, commentator, mentor, lecturer, and sports columnist. His contribution to nurturing young talent and promoting cricket in Jammu & Kashmir has earned him widespread recognition.
Congratulating Dhar on his appointment, Commissioner/Secretary of the Youth Services and Sports Department, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Director General Youth Services and Sports Anuradha Gupta, and former JKCA Member-Administration Brig. Anil Gupta described the selection as a matter of pride for the sporting fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir.
Expressing gratitude on the occasion, Dhar thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its officials for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving the national team. He termed the appointment a prestigious honour and expressed hope that more deserving candidates from Jammu & Kashmir cricket would receive opportunities at the national level in the future.
