Wayne Rooney Tips Arsenal as Favourites to Win Champions League This Season

London: Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has thrown his support behind Arsenal to go all the way in the UEFA Champions League this season, calling the Premier League leaders the “team to beat” in Europe.

Arsenal have been in scintillating form under Mikel Arteta, winning all four of their Champions League fixtures so far and sitting comfortably at the top of the Premier League with 29 points from 12 matches, six clear of second-placed Chelsea.

Rooney: “Arsenal have their best chance in years”

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Rooney said Arsenal now boast the squad depth and quality required to challenge Europe’s elite.

“I think they’ve got as good a chance as they’ve had for a long time,” Rooney said. “The whole squad they’ve put together has good players starting and very good players on the bench to cover for injuries.”

Rooney highlighted Arsenal’s balance, strength in all areas, and ability to sustain performance levels despite fitness setbacks.

Defensive strength sets Arsenal apart

Arteta’s side have conceded just six goals in 18 matches across all competitions this season — one of the best defensive records in Europe — despite dealing with several key injuries.

This resilience, according to Rooney, is a major factor in their Champions League aspirations.

Recruitment and consistency praised

Rooney credited Arsenal’s strategic transfers and consistent league form as reasons why they can realistically push for their first Champions League title.

“I think their recruitment has been really good, and they’ve been really strong in the Premier League. If they can take that form into the Champions League, they have a very good chance,” he added.

A decisive week for Arsenal

Arsenal face a crucial stretch, starting with a high-stakes Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, followed by a key Premier League clash with Chelsea.

With momentum on their side and the backing of one of England’s greatest forwards, the Gunners enter this pivotal week as firm favourites to keep their European dream alive.
