Belal Muhammad Issues Strong Warning to Ian Machado Garry Ahead of UFC Qatar Co-Main Event

New York: Former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad has delivered a bold message ahead of his highly anticipated return to the Octagon at UFC Qatar, where he faces rising contender Ian Machado Garry in the co-main event.

Muhammad (24-4), competing in his first MMA fight since losing the UFC welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena in May, believes Garry (16-1) will rely heavily on movement and evasion once they step inside the cage.

Muhammad returns with renewed focus

The 37-year-old veteran brings a wealth of experience to Qatar, having secured three career stoppage victories in the UFC. Notably, two of his standout performances came in the Middle East — a submission win over Takashi Sato at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, followed by handing Sean Brady the first loss of his professional career at UFC 280.

Ahead of his first-ever appearance in Qatar, Muhammad expressed his enthusiasm for fighting in front of a passionate Middle Eastern crowd.

“I’m excited to fight in front of such an amazing crowd. Whenever it’s the first time in a country, the energy is incredible. The fans here have been fantastic,” he said.
“In the past, my fights in Middle Eastern countries have earned bonuses and finishes. I plan to do the same here.”

Garry’s rising momentum

Ian Machado Garry enters the matchup with a strong 16-1 record, a former Cage Warriors Welterweight Champion, and a UFC Performance of the Night bonus already to his name.
The Irishman boasts impressive wins over the likes of:

Geoff Neal

Michael Rodriguez

Daniel Rodriguez

Garry remains one of the fastest rising contenders in the UFC welterweight division.

Muhammad eyes rankings, targets Morales

Muhammad also spoke on the division’s hierarchy, claiming he must surpass top-ranked contenders—particularly Morales—by defeating Garry decisively.

“There’s a tier right now of who’s doing the best, and I believe Morales is at the top. I need to beat Ian Garry, outshine him, finish him, and stay at the top,” Muhammad stated.

Fight night set for Saturday

Belal Muhammad vs Ian Machado Garry will take place this Saturday at ABHA Arena in Qatar, as UFC hosts a major event in the country for the first time.
