Campaign against Obesity: Omar Abdullah nominate Irfan Pathan, Kuldeep Handoo, Sania Mirza

Srinagar: Taking ahead the campaign against obesity launched by prime Minister Narendra Modi, The J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday nominated his 10 persons that included top sportsstars like Irfan Pathan, Kuldeep Handoo , Sania Mirza among others.

 “I’m very happy to join the campaign against obesity launched by PM @narendramodi. ji. Obesity causes a number of lifestyle related health issues like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes & breathing problems not to mention mental health conditions like anxiety & depression. Today I’m nominating these 10 people to join the PM’s campaign against obesity & requesting them to nominate a further 10 people each to take this fight forward. @kiranshaw, @sajjanjindal, @deepikapadukone, @mirzasania, @IrfanPathan, @supriya_sule, @kuldeep_handoo, @ArcherSheetal, @IqraRasool9, @PalakBijral, #fightiobesity,” Omar Abdullah posted on X.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had nominated 10 prominent figures from diverse fields to promote awareness on the issue and encourage reduced edible oil consumption.

Among those nominated were Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, businessman Anand Mahindra, actor Mohanlal, Bhojpuri singer-actor Nirahua, shooter Manu Bhaker, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, singer Shreya Ghoshal, actor R Madhavan and philanthropist Sudha Murthy.

Sharing the announcement on X, PM Modi requested each nominee to further nominate 10 others, expanding the movement.

PM Modi had, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday urged people to use less oil in food and also pass on the challenge of reducing oil intake by 10 per cent to 10 others.
