Exclusive: Kashmir to host international cricketers after almost 40 years

For the first time in almost 40 years, international cricketers will be seen hitting the field in Kashmir as Legends League Cricket (LLC) is set to host matches in Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium.

Top international cricket stars like Chris Gayle, Hashim Amla, Ross Taylor, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik and many others are expected to play in the tournament, which begins on September 20.

Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium was recently renovated and is mostly used for football matches but the Legends League administration in collaboration with J&K Sports Council will prepare the ground for the mega event.

“Recently, some officials of LLC visited Bakshi Stadium and held a meeting with the Sports Council to discuss the plan of organising matches here. It’s agreed upon that some of the matches of LLC 2024 will be played in Srinagar,” a source told KSW.

The last time Kashmir hosted international cricketers was back in 1986 when India and Australia played an ODI at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar. Ever since due to various reasons, no top-level cricket matches have taken place in Kashmir, where the craze for cricket is ever-evolving.
