“We deserved more,” Ronaldo after Portugal’s Heartbreaking Euro 2024 Exit

In a dramatic quarter-final match at Euro 2024, Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, was eliminated after a penalty shootout defeat against France. Despite a goalless 120 minutes, Portugal fell short in the penalties, losing 5-3 as Joao Felix missed a crucial shot.

Following the match, Ronaldo took to his official X account to express his disappointment and gratitude. “We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each one of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for everything you have given us and for everything we have achieved so far. On and off the field, I am sure that this legacy will be honored and will continue to be built. Together,” wrote the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Portugal’s Performance

Portugal dominated the match against France, holding 60% of ball possession. However, despite their control and efforts, they could not convert their dominance into goals during regulation and extra time. The match proceeded to penalties, where Portugal’s Joao Felix missed his shot, resulting in a 5-3 loss in the shootout.

Ronaldo’s Disappointing Tournament

The Euro 2024 campaign was particularly disheartening for Ronaldo, who failed to score in the tournament despite playing all five matches. His only contribution was a single assist. Despite this, Ronaldo’s leadership and the team’s overall performance demonstrated their determination and resilience.

Looking Ahead

Ronaldo emphasized that Portugal’s journey does not end here. He assured fans that the team’s legacy will continue to be built, honoring their achievements and striving for more in future tournaments.
