Shahid Afridi irked by speculation over sacking of Shaheen Afridi as Captain

Srinagar: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has lashed out at PCB for the proposed removal of Shaheen Afridi as captain of Pakistan team.

In Pakistan cricket, speculation is rife that the new governing committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board would reinstate Babar Azam and sack Shaheen as the captain of the T20I side ahead of the World Cup, starting June 1.

Shaheen was appointed as captain of the T20 side while Shan Masood took over as the Test captain after Babar Azam stepped down from his role as captain after the team’s poor showing in the ODI World Cup in India last year.

In Shaheen’s first assignment as captain, Pakistan were handed a 4-1 thrashing in a 5-match T20I series in New Zealand.

“The biggest problem with our cricket is that our system changes whenever the faces change in the board. Whoever comes thinks whatever he is doing is the best for Pakistan cricket,” Shahid Afridi was quoted as saying.

“If you change the captain then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to change him now is wrong,” he added.
