ICC Rankings: Babar Azam’s reign as No.1 under threat from Shubman Gill

Srinagar: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s reign as No.1 ODI batter in ICC Batting rankings is under serious threat from India youngster Shubman Gill.

In the latest ICC rankings issued, Gill has moved closer to Babar at the top with grp less than 50 points now.

In another case India pacer Mohammad Siraj has reclaimed top spot in the bowling rankings.

Amoung other major gains in ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa bludgeoned an all-time destructive ODI knock against Australia in the fourth ODI. It helped South Africa to a 164-run win and moved Klaasen 20 places in the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. He is now placed in ninth.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill’s stellar batting performances, including his impressive 121-run knock against Bangladesh and an unbeaten 27 against Sri Lanka, have earned him valuable points. As a result, Gill has edged closer to Babar Azam, the reigning top-ranked ODI batsman. Currently, Gill occupies the second spot with 814 points, while Babar Azam continues to hold the number one position with 857 points, having only lost six points despite his 29-run innings against Sri Lanka.

In addition to these notable changes, Pakistan’s opener, Imam ul Haq, has also made a significant move in the ICC batsmen rankings, ascending one spot to the fourth position with 728 points.

Notably, Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten innings of 86* has led to a career-best rating points tally of 548, elevating him to the 47th position in the batsmen rankings.
