Pakistan played quality cricket during Ramadhan, lifted Champions Trophy as well: Mickey Arthur

Srinagar: Pakistan former coach Mickey Arthur has said that during the fasting month of Ramadhan, Pakistan cricket team played quality cricket and found success.

Arthur who is head of cricket of Derbyshire County Cricket Club said this in conversation with Club Media.

Arthur reflected on his Ramadhan experiences with Pakistan team, the lessons he learned, and how his players’ religious beliefs shaped his coaching style.

“I think the key was getting into another culture. I was blown away by the morals and values. The culture was just so pure, so good. Ramadhan is a very, very important time in the Muslim faith. Watching the players, because we played quality cricket during Ramadhan, incidentally, we were always very successful,” Arthur said.

“We won the Champions trophy during Ramadan; we won a Test match at Lords during Ramadhan. What stood out for me was the player’s commitment to their faith and Ramadhan. It was very interesting to see, also very, very stimulating just watching how the players adapted to that; it was amazing,” he added.

From 2016 to 2019, Arthur served as the head coach of Pakistan, helping them win the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 while Ramadhan was still in effect.

Earlier this year, PCB chief, Najam Sethi, said that Arthur will most likely be returning as the head coach of Pakistan men’s cricket team.

“I had not closed the chapter of Mickey Arthur. I am personally in negotiations with Mickey and we have resolved 90 percent of issues. Hopefully, we will very soon give you the news that Mickey will be joining us,” Sethi said.
