Inzamam wants Shoaib Malik, Shan Masood in Pakistan side for T20 World Cup

Srinagar: Former Pakistan captain and chief selector Inzamam ul Haq wants senior all-rounder Shoaib Malik, batters Shan Masood and Sharjeel Khan to be included in Pakistan squad for T20 World Cup in Australia.

Pakistan were beaten by Sri Lanka twice in Asia Cup with middle order failing to counter Lankan spinners.

Chasing 171 at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, Pakistan’s batting couldn’t transfer the pressure back on the opposition with the required rate continuously piling up.

“Pakistan’s performance in the Asia Cup 2022 were not that good but what is more worrying is that the middle-order did not step up when they were required to,” said Inzamam while speaking at an event in Lahore as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“The conditions of the World Cup in Australia will be extremely difficult and the conditions need to be kept in mind before the selection,” he added.

“I think Shoaib Malik, Sharjeel Khan, and Shan Masood can play a great role for Pakistan given the current situation.”

Pakistan are scheduled to face England in a seven-match T20I series at home, before they go on to face New Zealand and Bangladesh in a T20I tri-series scheduled to be played in New Zealand.

Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming series and T20I World Cup will be announced today (September 15).
