Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer was Wednesday ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against England as well as the entire IPL after dislocating his left shoulder during first ODI.

An insider from the BCCI told PTI that Iyer is ready to undergo surgery as he is currently in severe pain, which will rule him out of any action for at least four months.

“Iyer will ‘miss the entire IPL’ and also that his injury is causing him extreme discomfort and pain since the event,” a BCCI insider was quoted as saying by the news agency.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury in the eighth over of the England innings when he dived on a drive hit by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur. The discomfort was clear on his face as he left the field clutching his shoulder.

Iyer, wh also captains Delhi Capitals in the IPL, will miss the upcoming edition of the league, which is scheduled to go ahead from April 9.

In his absence, the DC captaincy is expected to be handed either to senior off-spinner R Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, or Australian Steve Smith.

Iyer is also not likely to play for English county side Lancashire in their one-day tournament. The county had announced on Monday that they were signing Iyer for the tournament starting on July 23.

On Tuesday, the BCCI had expressed, “Shreyas Iyer subluxated (partially dislocated) his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans.”
