Srinagar, November 26: Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli and batting superstar has said that there has been no clarity on why Rohit Sharma is not with Indian team in Australia currently.
Since the time BCCI announced squads for the Australia tour and leaving out Rohit Sharma from all squads citing injury and then adding him to Test squad, there have been lot of confusion and rumours going on.
On Thursday, Team India skipper while speaking to media made it clear that Rohit Sharma issue has not be dealt clearly and there is lot of confusion.
Rohit Sharma is still in India, nursing his hamstring injury at the National Cricket Academy. After the conclusion IPL, he decided to return home instead of flying to Australia with the rest of the team. At that time, it looked like the selectors and the BCCI medical team had asked him to go to the NCA in order to fully recover ahead of the Test series
However, recent reports have suggested that BCCI did not ask Rohit Sharma to return to India. Another report suggested that the opener returned home because his father was suffering from COVID-19
Speaking on the eve of the first ODI, Virat Kohli admitted that the entire episode of Rohit Sharma’s injury has ‘been very confusing’ and there has been little clarity over the same.
“It’s been very confusing and there’s been a lot of uncertainty and lack of clarity around the situation [Rohit Sharma’s injury],” said Virat Kohli during the virtual press conference.
“First we got info that he had injury and then when he played in IPL final we thought he would be flying with rest of the team to Australia from UAE but we later heard he is leaving for India. There has been no clarity on what is happening. He would have got enough time to rehabilitate properly under team experts during quarantine period, ” Kohli said.
Meanwhile, there are doubts over Rohit’s participation in the Test series too. The batsman is yet to fully recover and with strict quarantine rules in place, he might miss a better part of the series or its entirety.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is reportedly negotiating with Cricket Australia to relax the quarantine rules for Rohit as well as Ishant who is at the NCA too.
