In an inconceivable attempt to copy the Indian Premier League (IPL) methodology, several cricket-league organizers in Kashmir are making fun of cricketers as they auction players for as meager as rupees 100 while spending lakhs to arrange the auctions in five-star hotels.

This has lately demolished the quality of cricket being played in the Valley. The players feel on the moon for seeing their names in the auction, however, feel equally dejected after getting the bid of horrendous rupees 100.

These organizers who take a humongous entry fee of around 80K to 1lakh from team-owners on the name of auctions and social media hype, get motivated when a lot of local and national players come forward for the participation.

It’s turning out to be a matter of concern for the development of cricket in Kashmir as young players mistake these events as career-building opportunities while in reality, these events are nothing but a hoax.

“I don’t understand what attracts players and team-owners towards these unassembled leagues. By buying players for RS 100 while spending plenty for auctions shows what actually the events are all about,” a known cricket pundit of the state said.

He also questioned the easy availability of Ranji Trophy and other age-group cricketers in these events,

“JKCA should take a step and stop players in participating in these kinds of leagues. It passes a wrong message to youngsters,” he added.

Meanwhile, the outcome of these events also arises queries for they are played in matting wickets as well as in disorganized play-fields. It makes one think that if these people really want to do something for the game, why not spend the money in constructing a turf wicket or repairing the grounds rather than wasting huge bucks in the auctions.
