T20 trials are only for shortlisted players: JKCA clarifies

J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) has clarified that the upcoming T20 selection trials to be held from January 23 at GGM Science College Jammu are only for the shortlisted cricketers.

JKCA on Sunday announced that it is going start selection trials for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy from January 23. As the news came out all the cricketers thought that it would be an open selection trial but that was not the case. JKCA quickly clarified and said that the trials would be for the shortlisted players only.

“We have already conducted a long procedure of open selection trials in Srinagar as well as in Jammu for around two months. It was during those months that selectors along with J&K mentor Irfan Pathan shortlisted players for all the formats. Apart from that, selectors also kept keen eye on the performance of junior cricketers in various events and called those for senior team who did well,” said a JKCA official.

“During these trials around 50 shortlisted players from all age groups would be taking part and selectors would try their level best to select best available players. They have been also looking for the extra ordinary talent in-between. One such example is of Rasikh Salam who is now part of Mumbai Indians team in India Premier League. He was picked up from nowhere and given chance in senior team,” he added.

J&K has been kept in Group-A and will open its campaign against Nagaland on February 21.
