7th JK Golf Association Tournament concluded here at Royal Springs Golf Course in which over 90 golfers from the state and other parts of the country participated.
The tournament was played on team-based event between Chinar and Pine teams.
Team Chinar captained by Mushtaq Ahmad Burza emerged winners of the 7th JK Golf Association Tournament here at Royal Springs Golf Course.
Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai who was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony at RSGC gave away the awards to the winners.
The first leg of the tournament was held at Pahalgam Golf Course on Saturday which was inaugurated by Member Parliament and National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah. Over 80 golfers participated on the first day at Pahalgam.
At Pahalgam, the awards for the straight drive went at Mukhtar Jalla, Longest Drive went to Shiv Kapoor, Nearest to Pin went to Ghalib Mohiuddin Shah, Bull’s Eye wen to Farooq Rafique
Director Tourism Kashmir Tasaduq Jeelani teed-off the second leg of the tournament here at Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar on Sunday in which over 90 golfers both from State and other parts of the country participated.
Internationally acclaimed golfer Shiv Kapoor was major attraction of the tournament.
At Royal Springs Golf Course, the awards for the Straight Drive went to Rizwan Dar, Longest Drive went to Dr Shafkat Nazir, Nearest to the Pin went to Arshad Qadri, and Bull’s Eye went to Ashiq Wani.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganai appreciated the golfers who had come from other states for their participation in the tournament.
He said J&K has the best golf courses in the country, which has huge potential to attract golfers from across the globe.
He said the participation of the golfers here in the tournament is the testimony to the fact that Kashmir is visitable and tourists can enjoy their holidays peacefully.
He urged the golfers to promote J&K as not only as a golfing destination but as a peaceful destination.
Shiv Kapoor who has won European Tour Title and is Asian Golf Championship Golf Medalist said he has played at many golf course in the world but found the Royal Springs Golf Course and Pahalgam Golf Course as one of the best in the world.
“We have a beautiful natural settings here and a very pleasant environment which can makes its one of the best golf courses in the world. The golfers will love to play here in such a beautiful settings,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Tasaduq Jeelani said J&K is complete golfing circuit which needs to be promoted through golf tournaments.
“The players like Shiv Kapoor have international fame and their presence in our courses will definitely promote J&K as golfing destination. We are expecting good number of golfers to visit J&K for more such tournaments in the future,” he said.
He said the department has been participating in the travel marts and other travel shows where it has promoted golf potential of the State.
“The golfers are also high-end tourists who not only come here to play golf but come along with their families for sightseeing and shopping of famed handicraft products,” he said.
Tasaduq said the golfers have many choices to play golf at many breathtaking locations across the state.
J&K Bank Chairman Parvez Ahmad, former JK Bank Chairman M Y Khan, Justice Muzaffar Jan, MD Cum CEO J&K Golf Development and Management Authority Ghalib Mohiuddin Shah and President J&K Golf Association Mushtaq Burza were also present at the award ceremony.
The tournament was jointly organised by Department of Tourism Kashmir and J&K Golf Association.
