Srinagar: Former India cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri has warned rising star India pacer from J&K, Umran Malik about his lack of variations and for going out only with the speed.
Umran Malik has been having a bad IPL 2023. He has been in and out of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad this season. He has been expensive and has not been taking many wickets as well. In his last match , Umran howled only one over which was way expensive.
Meanwhile former India coach Ravi Shastri while speaking to ESPNCricinfo has talked about the struggles of Malik, Prithvi Shaw and Deepak Chahar.
“They (Shaw, Hooda, Umran) need to go back to the drawing board. Referring to Umran here, just pace pace pace won’t work. They need to tell him that a 150 kmph ball can go at 200 kmph off the bat,” Ravi Shastri said.
Meanwhile former India pacer RP Singh had recently said that Umran Malik lacks ability to swing the ball.
“As a bowler you need to give that confidence to the captain that yes you can contribute towards the team. He has speed, and that is a big thing. If he can swing the ball like Dale Steyn…Umran doesn’t have that ability to swing the ball. The moment he manages to improve on that, maybe learn to bowl those cutters as well, he will be a different bowler altogether,” RP Singh said.
On Sunday, after Abdul Samad led Sunrisers to a thrilling last ball win vs Rajasthan, Umran Malik stormed into the ground , hugging Samad.
After the match, Samad said that he will run into his room as Umran and others are ‘crazy’ when it comes to celebrating, to which the pacer sarcastically said that he will just apply a cake on his face. However, at the beginning of the clip, Malik revealed his plans that he has ordered 8-9 cakes to smash at Samad in the dressing room.
