Glenn Maxwell Pulls Out of IPL 2026 Auction, Ends Long-Standing IPL Journey — For Now

Sydney: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced that he will not be entering the IPL 2026 auction, marking a pause in one of the most influential T20 careers in the league’s history.

In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, the 37-year-old called it a “big call”, acknowledging the emotional weight of stepping away from a tournament that shaped him both professionally and personally.

“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name in the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” Maxwell wrote.

Maxwell, regarded as one of the IPL’s most explosive and versatile overseas players, thanked the franchises he represented over his 14-year journey — Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), and Punjab Kings. He also expressed deep appreciation for Indian fans, praising their “unmatched passion.”

“The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever. Thank you for all your support over the years. Hopefully, see you soon,” he added.

Across 141 IPL matches, Maxwell scored 2,819 runs at a strike rate exceeding 155, while also delivering valuable spells with his off-spin. His career included standout seasons with Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as well as earlier stints with MI and Delhi Daredevils. He was part of Mumbai Indians’ 2013 IPL title-winning squad.

Maxwell is the latest marquee name to opt out of the IPL 2026 auction, following the recent withdrawals of Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali, signalling a growing trend among senior international players reassessing their T20 commitments.
