16 Capped Indians Among 1,355 IPL 2025 Auction Entries; Maxwell Skips Season

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 players auction has attracted a massive pool of 1,355 registered players, featuring 1,062 Indians and 293 overseas cricketers, according to the auction register accessed by Cricbuzz. Notably, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, one of the league’s most recognisable faces, has opted out after 13 seasons and 141 matches.

The one-day mini-auction is scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi.

Maxwell Steps Away After 13 Seasons

Maxwell, who has played for multiple IPL franchises and delivered several memorable performances, confirmed his absence through Instagram.

“After many unforgettable seasons in IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year… The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person,” Maxwell shared.
He thanked fans and teams for their support, calling the decision “a big call.”

Strong Overseas Representation

The overseas section features top names from England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and even entries from Malaysia and the USA.

Australian trio Cameron Green, Matthew Short, and Steve Smith headline the list, while wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has also entered despite possible scheduling conflicts due to his wedding.

Prominent overseas stars include:

  • Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway (New Zealand)
  • Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana (Sri Lanka)
  • Jonny Bairstow, Jamie Smith (England)
  • Gerald Coetzee, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi (South Africa)

The list comprises 212 capped players, 1,121 uncapped, and 22 associate-nation cricketers.

Indian Contenders

Among Indian players, names such as Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Hooda, Venkatesh Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Akash Deep and Umesh Yadav are among the prominent aspirants.

Only two Indian players have placed themselves in the maximum base price category of ₹2 crore:

  • Ravi Bishnoi
  • Venkatesh Iyer

Players With ₹2 Crore Base Price

A total of 45 players, including 43 overseas cricketers, have chosen the highest base price bracket. These include:

  • Australia: Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Jake Fraser-McGurk
  • England: Liam Livingstone, Tom Curran, Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Tymal Mills, Jamie Smith

  • South Africa: Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee, Rilee Rossouw

Franchises Enter Auction With ₹237.55 Crore Purse

After retentions concluded on November 15, the ten IPL franchises collectively carry a purse of ₹237.55 crore.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lead with ₹64.30 crore,
  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) follow with ₹43.40 crore.

A total of 77 squad slots are open—including 31 overseas positions.
